The company built its first car in 1940 and from then it has been the leading car manufacturer of the world. Ferrari is known to create often extravagant and speedy automobiles and covered large markets. With its surprising performance and powerful looks, it is famous for high class customers and is a key brand in their collections. Most probably, all the car enthusiasts know about the LA Ferrari. LA Ferrari is a limited production hybrid sports car built by Ferrari. LA Ferrari literally means “The Ferrari” in most Romance languages, in the sense that it is the “definitive” Ferrari. On December 3, 2016, a LA Ferrari was auctioned off for $7 million, making this car “the most valuable 21st century automobile ever sold at auction”.
The model is the first mild hybrid from Ferrari, having the highest power output of any Ferrari whilst decreasing fuel consumption by 40 percent. LA Ferrari’s mid rear mounted 65° V12 Internal Combustion Engine which has a 6.3L (6262 cc) capacity giving 800 PS (588 kW, 789 bhp) @ 9,000 rpm and 700 Nm (516 lb-ft) of torque @ 6,750 rpm. It is supplemented by a 163 PS (120 kW; 161 bhp) KERS unit (called HY-KERS), which will provide short bursts of extra power. With all these, check out these quick facts about LA Ferrari.
8) It’s a Hybrid
Hybrid is a car which uses variety of fuel (generally gasoline or diesel engines). LA Ferrari is also a hybrid car. It is the most powerful hybrid built by Ferrari so far. Ferrari has adopted Formula 1 racing technology which uses bit less fuel, emits lesser CO2 and accelerates to 60mph in less than 3 seconds. The batteries add an extra 132 pounds, but they also give the car its ferocious punch. Furthermore, just like those of Ferrari’s F1 cars, the LA Ferrari’s chassis and body are made of hand-laid carbon fiber.
7) Kinetic Energy Recovery System (KERS)
Unlike conventional hybrid vehicles, in which either the electric motor or the internal combustion engine is running, La Ferrari comes with KERS. The KERS (Kinetic Energy Recovery System) adds extra power to the combustion engine’s output level for a total of 963 PS . In addition, it adds power on top of what the combustion engine produces. The recovered energy is stored in reservoirs like high voltage batteries. The stored energy is later used for acceleration of the vehicle. KERS system runs along with the engine, never on its own.
6) Superiority among competitors
Compared to other supercar in the market like Nissan GT-R, the La Ferrari is extremely superior in terms of gears, horsepower, cylinder, torque, compression ratio etc. But the pricing of LA Ferrari is a bit too high compared to Nissan GT-R’s $0.15million. The price of LA Ferrari is even questioned by the critics at times.
5) Is it worth?
While compared to another awesome sports car Ferrari 458, it is quite expensive in terms of the product features. The 562 HP, 4500cc Ferrari 458 costs around $0.275million whereas LA Ferrari costs $7 million, currently. Furthermore, it beats the Pagani Huayra in terms of speed, power as well as price.
4) Hardcore Electronics
La Ferrari has a number of electronic controls containing ESC stability control, high performance ABS/EBD anti-lock braking system/electronic brake balance followed by electronic traction control integrated with the hybrid system and active aerodynamics to enable maximum performance. Squash the throttle down and the LaFerrari responds with full acceleration in 0.1 seconds. It’s the first road car that makes the straights on a track more frightening than the turns due to its intimidating speed.
3) Wild Performance
Ferrari states that the car has a top speed exceeding 350 km/h (217 mph), and is capable of reaching 100 km/h (62 mph) under 3 seconds, 200 km/h (124 mph) in below 7 seconds, and a speed of 300 km/h (186 mph) in 15 seconds. Ferrari also claim that the car has lapped its Fiorano Test Circuit where speed of cars are tested, in under 1 minute and 20 seconds which is faster than any other road-legal car Ferrari has ever produced.
2) Magnificent Design
Usually, Pininfarina designs cars for Ferrari. But LA Ferrari received no input (style and design) from Pininfarina, making it the first Ferrari since the ‘Bertone-styled 1973 Dino 308 GT4’ model not to have Pininfarina bodywork and other styling. The adverse decision is a rare exception to the collaboration between Ferrari and Pininfarina that began in 1951 while almost all cars from Ferrari is designed by Piniinfarina.
1) Adjustable Aerodynamics
Air movement around the car is constantly adapted to the driving situation in the LA Ferrari. It has a modern mechanism to control the air pressure. A giant rear spoiler works out and up; flaps in the front and rear to regulate underbody airflow; and a vane in front controls air to the radiator. At 125 mph the car generates up to 1100 pounds of road-adhering down force.
